Kids, kids and kids!

Beach Hut Surf School was brimming with kids last Thursday as the wavy sea showed a bit of consideration to our skim boarding students.

Our giddy moppets were:

Carl Nigel Sembrano

Gian Carlo Sembrano

Rafael Santino Palafox

Enrique Gazmin

Santi Gazmin

Lyle Paunil

These little darlings immersed in their extreme playpen like they own the entire beach. Just look and admire these innocent creatures' bewildered look...

"Surprise, Nigel!"

"Gian's First Few Steps"

"The Three Musketeers"

"Still couldn't get enough"

"Boracay's my nursery"

"Enrique's attempts"

"Santi's Revenge"

"Don't hide, Enrique"

"How is it again?"

"Kiddie classes in session"

"Boy, you're gonna carry that weight..."

"Look at me"

"Body boarding is easier"

"Am I next?"

"Oh, please don't go"

"...and a girl named Lyle"

"Skim Board Dimension 101"

"Just wait for the waves"

"Always stamp your feet in the middle"

"Ok, Aser. Now let me try"

"Again, again, again.."

At the end, Beach Hut Surf School awarded a skimboard each for Nigel and Gian, Enrique and Santi, and Rafa for being the sportiest kids in the course.

Skim Boarding vs. Sunbathing, Henna, Shakes and People Watching

Obviously, skim boarding is a fun, intense and fulfilling extreme sport. Then why is it that not everybody wants to learn it especially since it's already free (for Beach Hut Clear Spray Sunblock users)?

Well, here's a list of observations and feedbacks from people who have been offered to learn skim boarding:

1. Rather sunbathe and dip in the water than grasp a sense of equilibrium under the heat;
2. Has to let the henna tattoo dry;
3. Beach transients find the sport too extreme and difficult;
4. "Watching the way the sport's being done is already enough!"
5. Too busy watching sunrays reflected on bikini-clad gals and sinuwy men catwalking along the beach;
6. Jonah's Fruit Shakes is better than skim boarding.

As you well know, humans are weak, so it's truly just a few chosen brave souls who would motivatedly ride on the board and glide on the thin shores of Boracay.

Now for those who haven't enrolled in Beach Hut Surf School yet:
If you haven't learned Beach Hut's skimboarding, then you haven't really tried Boracay.

All-Natural Carlo

One beautiful Saturday afternoon, a Boracay first-timer named Carlo wanted to play frisbee on the beach. His cousins had been too busy slurping Jonah's Fruit Shakes and letting their henna tattoo dry. After overhearing this, Beach Hut Surf School girl Amanda turned to Carlo and offered to play frisbee with him.

Amid the billowing wind in this Boracay habagat season, the two was able to play catch frisbee until Carlo pulled out his Beach Hut Clear Spray Sunblock SPF 45. Thus, Amanda set aside the disc and offered a free skimboarding lesson to Carlo instead.

Carlo agreed enthusiastically. He signed the waiver, put on a Beach Hut rash guard and followed DJ Surf at Willy's Rock with a Beach Hut skimboard in his arm.

This nursing student fell on his butt a couple of times but like almost every student Beach Hut Surf School has had, he was still able to ride on the board scot-free (without the need for his own nursing aid).

At the end of the class, Carlo returned his rash guard, collected his Beach Hut skimboard prize for being a natural skimboarder, and rejoined his cousins with a renewed sense of fulfillment.

It Ain't Over Til It's Over

Strong winds and sudden rainshowers may create big wavesin Boracay's white beach on this mysterious Thursday, but it doesn't definitely stop hopefuls from enrolling in Beach Hut's free skimboarding lessons.

But before our students stepped up, Jaime and Aser meanwhile free rode on the waves without being wiped out.

Thus, when the time had come, laid-back fruit shake drinkers from Metro Manila and Visayas Regions were so fascinated by the slice and glide of skimboarders on our tempting waves and signed up for their Beach Hut Surf School Perks.

It was yet indeed another joyous and successful Beach But Surf Class. No one got hurt and everybody returned to their fruit shakes satisfied. Hopefully, the sun will still shine on us on the next few classes left before summer finally ends.
