Blazing Saturday

For a summer season that's duly attended by sun-conscious Manilenios, the Saturday sun blazed away students who wanted to join. Can't blame them for though the perfect tide appeared at 3:30pm, it would have been unbearable for them to learn skimboarding under the obnoxious heat.

So I strolled along the beach to entice fancy-free sunlovers to switch to Beach Hut. I found a 9-year old local boy named Raffy skimboarding alone near Jonah's. I was amused by his surfing mastery and rewarded him a Beach Hut Skimboard. He accepted it quite graciously and showed me some more tricks.

At Jonah's, no one would dare frolic under the burning sun. But just before closing time, a skimboarding fan showed interest in the school by buying a Beach Hut Sunblock first. Hunky Instructor, Aser taught the lone student, Carlos how to skim perfectly on the tide.

Lucky for Carlos, he got his Beach Hut Sunblock, his free skimboarding lesson and his Beach Hut Skimboard prize all to himself.

Happy Thursday

It was indeed a happy day for Beach Hut Surf School last March 29. For a weekday like Thursday to be attended by 5 Beach Hut afficionadoes, it was certainly a treat for Beach Hut.

A guy named Anton, who like a few, purchased a Beach Hut Sunblock only to get a free skimboarding lesson. With his skimpy Beach Hut rash guard on, cool Beach Hut instructors Jaime and Aser taught him to glide the thin waves at the better tide of Waling-Waling Beach Resort's beach front. This is due to the fact that the tide of Jonah's beachfront was rough and too risky to learn skimboarding in the correct wasy because of the heaps of pebbles and shells filling the sand.

Goody girls Camille and Czarina followed suit, while ideal couple Nisay and Victor signed up with their newly purchased Beach Hut Clear Spray Sunblock so they could learn the right and easiest way to skimboard.

By sunset everybody was already content with their accomplishment. The in demand instructors, couldn't care less for the impending sunset due to the enjoyable session, while the students gained more athletic skills that they probably thought they didn't have at all. In return, Camille and Carla, became the winners of the very colorful Beach Hut Skimboard, which is also due to the girls' height and weight compatibility with our medium sized skimboards.

No matter what happens, no one really leaves empty handed with Beach Hut!

The Magnificent Seven

Sunday, March 25 surprisingly proved to have gained more students than Saturday. Seven magnificent dudes and dudettes signed up for their free skimboarding lessons at Jonah's.

Hot DJ/Beach Hut Skimboarding Instructor Jaime and 2006 Kana Skimboarding Champion, Biboy taught seven students with no sweat and no difficulty at all. Julian Del Pilar, whom I had just recruited upon seeing his Beach Hut Clear Spray SPF 45 next to his luscious fruit shakes practiced his lesson from beginning to end (which was why he deserved a beach Hut Skimboard);
German Ex-Pat, Christian Feuerlei returned after missing his lesson the day before and prevailed on learning the basic techniques of skimboarding after falling into the water for several times; Couples Ed Malatag and Aget Go delightfully purchased two Beach Hut Sunblocks just to avail of the free lessons, at which they enthusiastically indulged in, thus earning Aget the second Beach Hut Skimboard giveaway; Skimboard enthusiast Peter Magay, an island local who works in station 1, showed up with a Beach Hut Sunblock just to experience the thrill of skimboarding with cool skimboard instructors; Manila boy Tyke De Leon, took advantage of his free lessons expediently; and Jo-Anne Kuhn who was very conscious of her moves, was not easily bogged down. She stayed in the water till it was already dark. Included in the picture is Fatima Abdulkadin who took time out of her busy schedule to join her friends.

These blithe beach lovers were fair game. Beach Hut Surf School transpired in a blast. Watch out for the next beguilling activity of Beach Hut Clear Spray Sunblock.

The second day is still too early to tell...

The second day of the Surf School (March 24, Saturday) turned out to be a photo session for Beach Hut. Again, more than one person signed up at Zuzuni, but only one turned up at Jonah's Fuit Shakes for their free skimboarding lessons.

An eager skimboarding student in the person of Jennifer Pua was taught by Jaime, who focused on perfecting her skills (and not to fall) to the last hour of his duty. Jennifer was very modest and appreciative of Beach Hut's new fad. Unfortunately, though no one was able to win a Beach Hut Skimboard.

Ultimately, the day turned out to be fulfilling still, even though not many people signed up. Having fun and maximizing life on the beach (in just a short period of time) is all that counts. Coz once that's realized, things will eventually follow smoothly.

Beach Hut Surf School Launch

The Beach Hut Surf School kicked off on March 22, Thursday. Beneath the striking heat of the sun, booths were properly set up at Zuzuni Restaurant and Jonah's Fruit Shakes.

A few signed up at Zuzuni, but none of those showed up at Jonah's.

Beach Hut Chicks Steph and Loraine, Hot Surf School Instructor Jaime and myself, lazed under the semi-shaded area by Boracay's white beach as we waited for our avid students.

At a little past 3 o'clock, a dad and his two daughters arrived inquiring about the surf school but without a Beach Hut Clear Spray Sunblock. I offered to buy one for them at the nearby sari-sari store.

Upon my return, I found the daughter, Rafaella Villanueva animatedly fixated on Jaime as he oriented her some skinboarding moves on sand first (as it was impossible to skim on a high tide).

An hour later, Jaime and Rafaella were on the water doing "Wave Ride" and "Long Ride" skimboarding styles. Meanwhile, Steph and Rafaella's daughter, Alessi were having fun on the sand making butterflies.

Though only a lone student claimed her free lessons, the day was nonetheless exciting and fun as expected. Thanks to Jonah's splendid fruit shakes and Boracay's pristine white sand.

Some more Beach Hut Surf School next.

Full Speed Ahead!!!

The first day of Beach Hut Surf School, we were honored to have Alessi and Rafa Villanueva attend our skimboarding session. Rafa is 6 years old, and Alessi is 4... I've never seen such determination to learn skimboarding...

Rafa especially, was innately athletic as she listened to Coach Jamie give her a few pointers on how to glide on water.

I don't believe I've ever or will ever see the same kind of determination and persistence that these two girls exhibited in learning skimboarding :)
